Aquaculture & Aquatic Resources Management

Aquaculture is defined as the production of aquatic plants and animals for human consumption. Under the pressure of the increasing world population on the one side and the stagnating or even declining fishery landings on the other side, aquaculture is considered the only option to respond to the growing demand for healthy and sustainable seafood. Therefore, aquaculture expanded from an artisanal, extensive mode of production of aquatic organisms to a rapidly evolving bio-industry. Commercial aquaculture is a relatively young, diverse, and dynamic industry with growth figures exceeding any other traditional primary production sector.

The Higher National Diploma in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management is a three and half year program oriented towards the skills required by the industry at middle management levels in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management. This is a constantly actualized program that balances a broad multidisciplinary approach with an in-depth research and field based industry oriented training. It prepares its students for fulfilling leading roles in middle management levels in aquaculture businesses.

Entry qualifications :GCE (A/L) Science (Bio) or Bio system Technology or Art with Credit Pass for Soft Technology (Bio Resource Technology) OR NVQ Level 04 Certificate of Aquaculture Technician.

Building Service Technology

Building services, often referred to as the “lifeblood” of modern structures, are essential systems that ensure a building’s functionality, comfort, and sustainability. These services encompass a wide range of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), fire safety, security systems, and building automation technologies. In today’s construction industry, building services are no longer an afterthought; they are integral to the design, operation, and sustainability of modern buildings.

Mechanical Systems: Modern buildings require sophisticated HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems to maintain indoor air quality, regulate temperature, and provide fresh air circulation. This ensures occupant comfort and productivity in both residential and commercial spaces.

Electrical Systems: Reliable power distribution, lighting, and control systems enable the operation of appliances, computers, machinery, and other essential equipment in a building. Effective electrical design and implementation are crucial for modern facilities to function efficiently.

Plumbing Systems: Efficient water supply, waste management, and drainage are critical for both hygiene and convenience. Plumbing ensures that buildings have safe, clean water and sanitary waste removal systems, making them habitable and compliant with health standards.

Extra Low Voltage (ELV) Systems: ELV systems are vital in modern buildings, especially for communication, security, and automation purposes. These systems include: CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) for security monitoring, Security systems for intrusion detection, access control, and alarm systems, Building automation for controlling HVAC, lighting, and energy management, contributing to improved efficiency and sustainability, MATV (Master Antenna Television) systems for centralized TV distribution within buildings, PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) for internal and external communication networks, Data network systems, including LANs (Local Area Networks) and Wi-Fi, which are essential for internet connectivity and communication.

Building services are the backbone of modern construction, ensuring that structures are functional, safe, comfortable, energy-efficient, and sustainable. As technology advances and environmental regulations become more stringent, the role of building services is more critical than ever. From creating smart buildings to reducing energy consumption and ensuring occupant well-being, building services are indispensable in shaping the future of the construction industry. Modern construction cannot achieve its goals without the seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and advanced building systems.

Therefore, the Higher National Diploma in Building Services Technology is a three-years and two months program (NVQ Level 5 and 6 including one-year training) oriented towards the skills required by the industry at middle management levels and leads students to the degree of Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Building Services Technology.
